I am delighted to be taking part in the Galway Cartoon Festival again this year. The festival will be taking place from 1 – 9 October. I will have work in the Tarraing é i nGaeilge (‘Draw it in Irish’) section of the festival, which will be in The Corn Store in Galway City and in the Áras Éanna Ionad Ealaíne Arts Centre on Inis Oirr.

During the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, I have – like so many people – been at home most of the time. I have tried to use some of this time to fulfil a lifelong ambition of mine: to write and illustrate a graphic novel.
I am currently making a big effort to improve my technical skills, especially with watercolour and ink, as this is the technique that I would like to use for the graphic novel. The images above are practice pieces to this end, they are scenes from my immediate lockdown environment.
Here are some of the books I have been reading to research the graphic novel. It is a murder mystery set in 12th-century Ireland and Italy. I have spent many months researching that period, and it has been absolutely fascinating.
